Spirituality is not Religion

“So what you have been given is not religion, but Spirituality. Do you follow me? Spirituality is not religion. Religion is a social body, or school, which we have joined to attain Spirituality. What is Spirituality? It is the self analysis of the soul from the mind and the outgoing faculties, knowing oneself and being in tune with God. This is what is strictly speaking Spirituality…So why follow the first step, when you have been given the higher step?"   Sant Kirpal Singh

Masters were sent by God to guide mankind towards spiritual perfection, not to start religions. Their real work was on the level of consciousness, on the level of the soul. Unfortunately, the religions that were started in their names, gradually lost the true spiritual essence, and only man-made codes of conduct and rituals remained.

"Religions have now been reduced to the mere performance of charitable deeds, the daily recitation of hymns, observance of rituals and ceremonies like fasts and pilgrimages,…all of which have no substantial bearing, however remote, on the advancement of the soul towards Self-realization and God-realization." These are only the elementary steps, and yet followers of the different religions fight over these inconsequential differences; behaviour so contrary to the teachings of the Masters who inspired their very religions. Instead of bringing people closer to God, religions have driven people away from the only One who can help all mankind.

"We had joined the different social orders just to equip ourselves for the realization of God but sidestepped God and got engaged in internecine quarrels with each other in the blessed name of religion. Millions of people have been sacrificed on the altar of religious fanaticism.Sant Kirpal Singh

The result is that people all the world over have come to have a kind of horror for the so-called religion which has failed to serve the common needs of humanity." Sant Kirpal Singh

God can only be known through Spirituality

Spirituality has always been about the personal connection that exists between each one of us and God. We are conscious beings and God is All-Consciousness, so spirituality is about realizing our true nature. That requires no rules, no rites, no formal religion. It only requires love.

"Why not seek that very Power which is within you? That will never leave you. That is the very controlling Power in the body, permeating all creation. This explains Spirituality in a few words." Sant Kirpal Singh

We need a simple movement of the spirit, with harmony and brotherhood of humanity and love for man, bird and beasts. Let our actions be an offering to the Lord. Mind that spirituality is non-egoism. Sant Kirpal Singh

If we do not see the God in ourselves and in everyone else, then we have not yet grasped the truth of God.

There is a power, call it God, the Source, the Christ Power or Masterpower. That Power has always existed everywhere, in everything, in everyone. There is no where it is not. So it is all sin to contain Him only for your own religion, race, nationality. Why would we want to limit the limitless?

He is infinite and indivisible, and yet He is living in your heart. If we would let him, He can change the course of our lives and the life of humanity, right now. No need for elaborate rituals or fancy houses of worship or listening to endless recitals of scripture. These will be left behind with the body when you die. Just know for certain that He is living in you, very alive. The eyes are the windows of the soul, and so he is looking out through your eyes right now. If you live like that, all His virtues will be transferred to you and everyone around you. This is the way to peace here and here after.
